“Because,”
he said to me
in the doorway to the casino.
“In there,
I can lose myself
in the excitement and buzz and booze.
Sometimes, I need
that break, that recess,
that vacation, that shifted orientation.
And so,
I shall see you later.”
For just a moment,
his eyes tried to tell me more,
but he turned and went in.
